Collabor-8 event - idea

The Collabor-8 event is happening on the 27th of Sep in The Space, Nottingham Contemporary. It develops the idea of the "Creative Selfie" but this time the format of presentation will be different. Unlike the "Creative Selfie" event which was a street flash mob performance, this event will be in a form of stage performance on which the design will be based. The main focus will be music but also there will be some poetry on.

 The set and costume design will  represent the type of music the different musicians will be playing. For each performer there will be 4 back drops (different for each musician) which will illustrate the performer and his music as an inspiration. In addition, we'll be also designing the costumes for the performer which will also be inspired by their music. Additionally, there will also be some more paper mashed head masks as the one from the "Creative Selfie" event.

In order to form a concept on which to base each of the design for the performers, we wrote 12 simple question and send them to the musicians for response.

After receiving the response, we selected 5 of them which are the most typical and inspiring for each artist and based our vision on them.

For example, for these 5 selected answers of the local song writter and singer Starz (also part of Get Involved) we decided to choose abstract art forms and shapes to cover the backdrops with. The shapes, textures and forms remind of ocean with some cosmic notes as well with pink and light blue as main colors. The backdrops are made of cardboard with acrylic drawings on them adding gloss and some color paper shapes. Here is a pictures of the making:
